In exciting news for certain ƹƵ (RCBC) health science students, RCBC will now offer them the chance to take their certification on campus.

The RCBC Test Center has been approved to administer certification to Emergency Medical Services students at various levels, including Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), and Paramedic.

Several health sciences exams administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exams have also been added, including Certified EKG Technician (CET), and Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA).

Previously, students in these programs had to travel to a Pearson Professional Center, often located outside the county or state, and at an added cost and inconvenience, to complete their testing. Now, they will only have to visit Evans Hall on the Mount Laurel campus, home to RCBC’s Test Center.

"The Test Center is trying to better coordinate the testing that we offer with the courses that require certifications,” Sharon Miehle, RCBC test center manager, said of the additions.

For Stephen Reustle, assistant director of Paramedic Science at RCBC, the addition of the EMS exams to the Test Center is a huge milestone for RCBC, making its EMS programs, one of six in New Jersey, the only one where students can complete their National Exam right on campus.

“It’s a tremendous advantage for our students and a major accomplishment for our college,” said Reustle.

“It's so beneficial for them to be able to come to a facility where they’ve gone for the last seven semesters, as opposed to trying to go to Philadelphia, which is probably one of the closest ones here,” said Reustle. “An unfamiliar place to go in and take an exam somewhere is just one more added stress, and this reduces that, which is phenomenal.”

Since the RCBC Test Center is already a Pearson Authorized Test Center, Reustle said it was just a matter of inquiring with Miehle to see if the college could host these exams.

"The decision to make the request with Pearson was simple,” Miehle said. “The Paramedic Science Department addressed a need, and I felt obligated to at a very minimum ask that question.  Turns out, Pearson and National Registry were happy to add our location to the authorized list for these exams."

Anyone from any program in New Jersey, as well as those from out of state, can take these exams in Mount Laurel, thereby bringing more people to explore everything RCBC has to offer.

“That's another feather in our cap kind of thing, if you think of it that way. That's why we're so excited,” Reustle said.
