Health Requirements and Compliances
We have partnered with Adam Safeguard (in partnership with SentryMD) to provide a secure platform for students to order and store required documentation for the dental hygiene program. All students must purchase a compliance package through Adam Safeguard to submit required documentation and ensure compliance in the RCBC Dental Hygiene program. Compliance with Adam Safeguard is needed for eligibility for placement in clinical facilities and is a requirement of admission and enrollment in Health Science Division programs. Some requirements can take upwards of 8-12 weeks to complete, so it is important to start gathering all the required documentation as soon as possible.
The following requirements are completed on, or uploaded to, Adam Safeguard/SentryMD by the due dates listed above:
- Background Check (order due April 14th) -ordered through Adam Safeguard/SentryMD
- Students are required to have clear results, which include any criminal charge regardless of degree or type that appears on the background screening. Any student with a positive background check will have their admission decision rescinded and should seek legal assistance for expungement if possible (this should be sought prior to applying to the program).
- Drug Screening (order due April 14th) -ordered through Adam Safeguard/SentryMD
- NOTE: please do not drink too much water before your drug screening as it may result in a diluted result and you will need to purchase a new drug screening package.
- CPR certification, BLS for Healthcare providers (Due July 15th)
- Submission of a current CPR/BLS Card. The only acceptable certification is received by completing a course provided by the American Heart Association which includes hands-on face-to-face training. Online certifications are not accepted.
- Health Care Compliance Course, HIPAA and OSHA Certificate (Due July 15th)
- Provided by Adam Safeguard, these are e-learning modules covering the topics of HIPPA and OSHA. These e-learning modules are part of your paid subscription from Adam Safeguard. You will receive a separate email from them with the link to access the modules (check your spam folder if you don’t receive the link).
- Dental Hygiene Program Policy Acknowledgements (Due July 15th)- signed form uploaded to Adam SafeGuard/SentryMD
- Health requirements (Due July 15th)-
As healthcare providers dental hygienists are exposed to infectious agents that can be transmitted to and from clinicians and patients. Dental hygienists are in constant contact with blood and saliva and are at great risk for infection without vaccines to protect them. Therefore, due to the high level of exposure in this profession, vaccinations and/or proof of immunity are required to participate in the RCBC dental hygiene program. There are no exemptions for the following health and immunization requirements.
- Health Insurance Form- all students are required to maintain health insurance cover throughout the dental hygiene program. Submission of the health insurance form and a copy of your current health insurance coverage is required.
- Physical Examination- completed by primary care doctor within the last year
- Eye Examination - completed by eye doctor within the last year
- Recent titers* (blood work) and history of immunization records, revealing immunity to the following:
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
*if titers do not show immunity, the student will need to start the vaccination series or get the booster by the due date and complete additional doses at the recommended interval to stay compliant
- Immunizations/Tests
- Tetanus (proof of last dose within 10 years)
- Influenza (flu) vaccination- annually by October 15
- Tuberculosis- Two-step tuberculosis skin test or Quantiferon blood test, and single test completed annually thereafter
